OSP Engineering Budget Estimator

OSP Engineering Budget Estimator

Get a planning-level budget range for OSP engineering, permitting, pole analysis, as-builts, construction support, and MDU design.

Select the services your project may require and enter estimated quantities. This tool provides a planning-level budget range based on typical OSP engineering conditions. Final pricing depends on project complexity, available records, permitting requirements, utility coordination, field conditions, deliverable standards, and schedule.

OSP engineering cost is driven by more than footage. Route condition, permitting authority, pole ownership, make-ready requirements, available records, field access, and deliverable standards all affect final pricing. This estimator gives a practical starting range before formal scope review.

Start by selecting the services your project may require. For each selected service, enter your best available quantity. Rough numbers are okay — the goal is to create a planning range, not a final quote. Use the “I don’t know this quantity yet” option to include a service in your scope summary without calculating it into the range.

Select a project category below. MDU and commercial building projects include additional architecture questions such as fiber-to-the-unit, Cat6/Cat6A, OSP path to building, riser/backbone scope, and electronics layout.

Route footage
ft

Enter approximate route footage for permit management scope.

Pole Collection

Field collection of existing pole data including owner, class, height, existing attachments, and condition — formatted for make-ready and pole loading analysis. Calculated based on pole count, data requirements, and field access conditions.

Number of poles
poles

Enter estimated pole count. Aerial routes typically average 25–35 poles per mile.

Pole Loading Analysis — Katapult Pro

NESC-compliant structural analysis using Katapult Pro to determine make-ready requirements, loading violations, and required pole replacements or transfers. Calculated based on pole count, analysis complexity, and deliverable format.

Number of poles
poles

Enter estimated pole count requiring loading analysis.

As-Built Documentation

Post-construction as-built drawings, GIS updates, and record documentation packages reflecting actual field-constructed conditions for final broadband project closeout. Calculated based on route footage, construction complexity, and GIS/CAD standards.

Route footage
ft

Enter approximate route footage for as-built documentation.

Construction Management — Field Inspector

Dedicated field inspector providing daily on-site quality control, construction documentation, issue tracking, and compliance verification during active broadband construction. Calculated based on engagement duration, project scope, and mobilization requirements.

Number of weeks
weeks

Enter expected number of weeks of field inspector support.

Construction Management — Construction Manager

Experienced CM overseeing contractor performance, schedule adherence, subcontractor coordination, RFI management, and daily construction reporting. Calculated based on engagement duration, project complexity, and reporting requirements.

Number of weeks
weeks

Enter expected number of weeks of construction manager support.

Construction Management — Project Manager

Senior PM providing full project oversight, budget tracking, stakeholder reporting, schedule management, and coordination between engineering, construction, and ownership teams. Calculated based on engagement duration, project scale, and oversight requirements.

Number of weeks

Select at least one service and enter a quantity to generate your planning range.

This planning range is for budgeting purposes only and is not a binding quote, proposal, or offer to perform work. Final pricing requires review of project location, scope, records, permitting requirements, utility coordination, field conditions, deliverable standards, and schedule. MDU budgets can vary significantly depending on whether the scope includes OSP route design to the building, in-building riser/backbone design, unit drops, fiber-to-the-unit, Cat6/Cat6A distribution, coax reuse, electronics layout, access rights, and property management coordination.

What this tool may not account for

Railroad coordination, state DOT requirements, environmental permitting, Army Corps coordination, make-ready complexity, pole replacement analysis, easement issues, missing or inaccurate records, field access limitations, client-specific CAD/GIS standards, accelerated delivery requirements, or MDU serving architecture complexity.

Why we use ranges

No two projects are identical. A clean rural route with good records is not the same as a dense aerial build with multiple jurisdictions, incomplete pole data, railroad crossings, or an MDU with unknown serving architecture and unresolved property access.
